Pa. transportation workers win Powerball

PHILADELPHIA, April 26 (UPI) — Forty-eight workers for the Southern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority will split a Powerball jackpot of $172.7 million, lottery officials said Thursday.

The workers, mostly from SEPTAs marketing department at the Market Street headquarters in Philadelphia, will each collect $3.6 million from Wednesdays win if they take annual payments over 30 years, or a $2.5 million lump-sum payout, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

SEPTA headquarters was abuzz Thursday about who the possible winners are. Sources told the Inquirer a custodian who chipped in regularly won, but a department manager who usually took part in the group lottery purchase...

Gov. Herbert backs Utah transportation boss

SALT LAKE CITY–Gov. Gary Herbert said Thursday he stands behind the state’s transportation boss, who is being criticized for his handling of back pay negotiations with an employee who was wrongly fired.

Democratic leaders are among those calling for the resignation or dismissal of John Njord, the executive director of the Utah Department of Transportation.

But Herbert says Democrats are wrongfully introducing politics into a process that is supposed to be confidential.
